10 Wedding Day Must-Have Reminders for Brides

Wedding dress… check. Veil… check. Bridal bouquet… check. What else does a bride need on her wedding day? Actually, quite a bit! Here are ten wedding must-haves that brides can sometimes overlook.

Marriage License

This is probably the most important thing to remember! You will need your marriage license to be signed by the bride, groom and the witnesses. After your wedding, the officiant will fill the signed marriage license with the local government and an official marriage certificate will be issued and mailed to you. If you are concerned that you’ll forget this very important item, ask your maid of honor or a trusted family member to take the responsibility.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue

If you’re sticking to tradition, all brides should be wearing something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Common items including jewelry, hair pieces, flowers and shoes.

By the way, do you know the meaning behind this wedding tradition? Something old represents continuity and is believed to ward off evil, something new represents optimism, something borrowed is for good luck and something blue represents love, purity and fidelity.

An Emergency Kit

Just because it is the “happiest day of your life,” doesn’t mean something won’t go wrong. In fact, something is likely to go wrong! That’s where an emergency kit can come in handy. Lose a contact on the dance floor? No worries, you’ll have an extra pair in your kit! Spinach stuck in your teeth? Pull out the floss!

Some items to put in this emergency kit include: deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, floss, sunscreen, extra contacts and contact solution, makeup, bobby pins, hairspray, band-aids, a sewing kit with thread that makes your dress as well as the bridesmaids dresses, water bottles, and anything else you think you may need.

Shoes

Okay, this is a bit misleading, we know that you aren’t going to walk out of the house forgetting to put shoes on. But, many brides forget to pack comfortable shoes for the reception. Trust us, after the ceremony, you will be dying to kick off the stilettos.

Your Vows

Even though you’ve spent hours memorizing your vows, it is always a good idea to bring a hard copy. Emotions run wild during the ceremony and there’s a chance your mind will go blank. So, whether you need them or not, having a copy of your vows can add a level of reassurance.

Your Phone

You don’t have a purse, you don’t have pockets, so where’s your phone? While the thought of forgetting your phone seems silly, it’s common for brides who have their minds on everything else they need for the day. Have a friend or a family member hang on to your phone for you. Ask them to take some photos on it too so that you can look at them later.

Guest Signature Sign with a Marker or Pen

With all the fuss over the seating chart, flower arrangements and other big wedding day musts, the wedding guest signature sign or book can often be forgotten. You won’t want to miss out on the loving advice and, sometimes entertaining, messages your guests leave for you. Also, don’t forget to bring a marker/pen and an easel!

A Water Bottle

Staying hydrated is important every day, but especially on your wedding day! But, with all the hustle and bustle, you may forget to drink your water. This is especially important if your ceremony or reception is in a rural setting such as a barn, beach or park.
